From the glittering streets of Manhattan to the moonlit rooftops of Paris, falling in love is easy for hopeless dreamer Isla and introspective artist Josh. But as they begin their senior year in France, Isla and Josh are quickly forced to confront the heartbreaking reality that happily-ever-afters aren't always forever. Their romantic journey is skillfully intertwined with those of beloved couples Anna and Étienne and Lola and Cricket, whose paths are destined to collide in a sweeping finale certain to please fans old and new.
I’m in love with Anna and Lola. Lola is like my all time favorite contemporary romance novel. Unfortunately Isla isn’t a favorite. I’m sad to say I don’t like it.
I thought Isla was about this shy and cute Isla with the reckless Josh. Nope, Isla isn’t shy, she is also reckless and will do whatever for Josh. Well, I didn’t register for this kind of story in first place. The story is only rolling between Isla and Josh and how instantly madly in love they are, that they’re perfect for each other and no space for other story. Their relationship is childish and selfish. It’s as usually cute because it’s Perkins’, but I don’t get the chemistry, it’s too rush with only a pinch of story.
There is no space for other characters too. Like, we get point of view from Isla, but we barely know about her called “best friend”, Kurt, because Isla doesn’t give a damn about him. All she thinks is only Josh, and she blames everyone when something bad happens in their relationship. All the problems are brought by Isla, presented to Isla, and hyperboled by Isla. It’s a really unhealthy relationship.
Not only about friendship, Isla also put Josh above family. There is always annoying sister, but I’ll fight for my sister if some guy says my sister “Bitch”. But Isla is happy when Josh calls her sister “Bitch” because you know, Josh is more important.
I love the setting though. It’s like the hero in this book! Paris is well drawn majestically, also other Europe setting which is wonderful. But it’s the only thing I like beside having Anna and Lola appearance. Isla is a boring character. I like Rashmi more, she’s not even in the book.
