On a day that started like any other,
Mia had everything: a loving family, a gorgeous, admiring boyfriend, and a bright future full of music and full of choices. In an instant, almost all of that is taken from her. Caught between life and death, between a happy past and an unknowable future, Mia spends one critical day contemplating the only decision she has left. It is the most important decision she'll ever make.
Simultaneously tragic and hopeful, this is a romantic, riveting, and ultimately uplifting story about memory, music, living, dying, loving.
Life might take you down different roads. But each of you gets to decide which one to take.

Mia had a wonderful life. Supportive parents and a cute brother. A bright career in Juliard. A handsome and cool boyfriend. A best friend who she could tell everything. A life full of loving. Then those were taken away in one accident with her family, she woke up in the line between death and alive. Mia had to choose if her life was worth to stay or she could just ran away from her life. Through If I Stay, Mia told about her life in the past before the accident.
This book is so short. I had not connected to Mia or other characters yet and then the end. Mia told about her story, her past, her family, and Adam. I didn't feel I was a part of her story. Or maybe at some point I denied to be intertwineded with Mia's life. Some stories indeed could make you cry (though I didn't).
Music was big thing in this book. Growing up in rocker parents made Mia urged to play music too, but in her case it was cello. It also connected her to Adam, a guitarist in an indie band. If you like classical or rock music, you could dive to this story more depth. But for me who doesn't, the music was just a word, the song was just a title. Usually when there is reference about music, I youtube it because I want to feel it flourishes the story. In If I Stay, I didn't feel that way. The music didn't allure me to go searching.
I wished to get conclusion in the end, but all I got only Mia's choice. There was no explanation after she took her choice, which require to read the sequel to know what happens next.
